Treatments

Chiropractic Treatment is based on the science that the nervous system controls every function in the human body. When spinal bones (vertebrae) move out of position (subluxate), they often put pressure on the nerves that exit the spinal column. These nerves serve as a communication line between the brain and the body. When pressure is put on the nerves by the vertebrae, they can no longer communicate correctly.

This “communication failure” can result in many common conditions such as: pain, numbness, tingling, headaches, weakness, infertility and decreased function of vital organs. Keep in mind that the nerves control everything we do, from the way we blink our eyes to the way we move our arms. These nerves also control our heart, lungs, kidneys, bowels, reproductive organs, and bladder.

ALL of our organs are controlled by nerves. Chiropractors relieve symptoms by addressing the root cause of many problems, which is usually nerve interference. This is done by removing the pressure from the nerves so the nerves can communicate efficiently. The pressure is removed by performing a gentle procedure called an adjustment or spinal manipulation.

There are many conditions that can be treated by a Chiropractic Physician.  Below are a few of the common conditions Chiropractors treat.
Headaches
Headaches are commonly caused by the vertebrae in the neck being out of alignment.  When the vertebrae are misaligned, it causes the muscles in the neck and around the head to tighten and spasm.  Often times this leads to headaches.
Sinus Pressure
Sinus pressure is common in our area with all of the coastal grasses and pollen.  Often your sinus pressure can be reduced by getting adjusted.  This is because the nerves that exit from the upper neck area and brain stem control the sinuses and ears.  When the upper vertebrae in the neck misalign, it can lead to increased sinus and ear pressure because the sinuses are not able to drain as well as they should.  Getting adjusted helps allow the sinuses to function properly.  When the sinuses can function properly, they can drain and relieve pressure.
Dizziness
Dizziness is often associated with fluid in the ears and sinuses.  Due to the fact that the nerves that exit from the upper neck and brain stem control the sinuses and ears, misalignments in the upper neck can lead to sinus drainage problems.  This leads to dizziness when the pressure in the ears builds up and can not be drained.  Getting adjusted may help with this condition.
Neck and Back Pain
Pain can be caused by many things.  Commonly, pain in the neck and back (cervical and lumbar spine) comes from misalignments in the vertebrae.  The pain could be coming directly from pressure on the nerves in an area of subluxation (misalignment of the vertebrae) or it could be caused by swelling secondary to the misalignment.  When the subluxations happen, the muscles in the area  usually spasm to protect the area.  This leads to pain as well.
Numbness/Tingling/Shooting pain
When we experience numbness/tingling/shooting pain, it is usually due to nerve interference.  Subluxations (misalignments of the vertebrae) put pressure on nerves.  This pressure changes the communication flow through the nerves.  The change in communication can be felt in different ways.  Numbness/tingling/shooting pain are all ways the nerve interference can be felt.
Reproductive Complications
When the vertebrae in the lumbar spine and the pelvic bones misalign, the nerves that control the reproductive organs are often times affected. After receiving chiropractic treatments regularly, many patient’s reproductive complications improve due to the body being able to function properly.
Sports and Auto Injury
Sports and auto injuries are commonly treated by chiropractors.  When the body is injured, the muscles and ligaments in the area of that injury are damaged.  This damage causes the muscles and ligaments to be weakened, leading to instability of the joints in the body.  As chiropractors, we help to stabilize the injured area during the healing process, greatly reducing the long term effects of the injury, such as degeneration (arthritis) and nerve damage.
Leg and Foot Pain
The nerves exiting the spinal cord in the lower back (lumbar spine) and through the sacrum (a pelvic bone) supply and control the legs and feet.  If pressure is put on these nerves by a misalignment, it can lead to pain in the legs and feet.
Arm or Hand Pain
The nerves exiting the lower neck supply the arms and hands.  If pressure is put on one of these nerves when it exits the spine, it can cause pain in the arms and/or hands. Receiving chiropractic treatment is the best way to resolve these issues.
Muscle Spasms
Muscle spasms are commonly caused by joint misalignments leading to nerve interference. When nerve interference exists, there is altered communication between the brain and the body parts. This miscommunication often causes the muscles to tighten and hold until proper communication is restored.  Misalignments of the joints also cause spasms of the muscles because the muscles attach to the bones directly.  When the joints are out of their proper position, they can not move properly.  This can cause the muscles to spasm to protect the area, which alters how the muscles pull on the bones to move the joints.
